Reflections: Arts in Educatoin

Refelctions is a national, PTA-sponsored program that encourages students to creatively express themselves through art. Each year, millions of elementary, middle and high school students across the nation enter artistic work in six categories: dance choreography, film productions, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts.

Local PTAs accept submissions from students and the top three entries in each category advance to the regional PTA contest. For Clayton, our top entries will go to the Austin Council of PTAs, then on to the Texas-wide competition, and finally on to the nationwide competition. 2016 - 2017 Theme

The Reflections theme is chosen from thousands of ideas submitted by students across the country. This year's theme is "What Is Your Story".

Reflections at Clayton

At Clayton, the Reflection Program kicks off in early October. How to participate:

1. Review the six category descriptions and brief guidelines for submissions here. More detailed participation guidelines are available at www.txpta.org/programs/reflections.
2. Students or parents need to complete an entry form for EACH piece of work submitted. Submission forms are online and you can can access the form here.
3. Submit artwork and entry form to the Reflections committee. The committee will be in the Clayton lobby on October 2, 9, and 16 from 7:15-7:45am to accept students’ submissions.

Judging: The Reflections committee is actively inviting local artists to participate in the review of the artwork. Entries are evaluated based on interpretation of the theme and artistic, creative, and technical merit. While all of the entries certainly will be masterpieces, the top three in each category will advance to the regional competition.

Recognition: Each participating student will receive one participation tag. Students are encouraged to enter multiple times to increase the chances of their artwork advancing to the regional competition. Students with art that advances to the regional competition will receive an additional award.

Art Show: The Reflections ceremony is held in November for all participants! Advancing entries will be identified at the Art Show so be sure to attend to see if your Cardinal has won!
