Morning Arrival Info.
Students should report to the cafeteria for grades K-2 and sit in their designated class area. Grades 3-4 should report to the gym and their designated areas.
Students can enter the school as early as 7:15. By 7:35, teachers will be leaving the cafeteria and gym areas to bring students to classrooms. Students should then meet their classes in line (during transition) and report to classrooms. 5th grade students have special arrangements and will be supervised on the 2nd floor hallway.
We ask that any parents accompanying their children to the cafeteria and gym help them get seated and clear the area so that children and classes can exit easily. Designated teachers are on duty to supervise these areas. If you are waiting in the cafeteria and/or gym area until your specific classroom teacher arrives, please clear all access pathways. It is also recommended that you move into the hallway (against the walls or exiting the building) once classes start exiting these common areas. We sincerely appreciate your help.
For families new to Clayton, please note that assemblies will be held on Monday mornings, unless we have a school holiday on a Monday. At that point, we will hold assemblies the next (Tuesday) morning. For example, since we do not have school on Monday, September 1st (Labor Day), students remain in the cafeteria and gym areas for assembly on Tuesday, September 2nd.
Dismissal Info.
Parents, we appreciate all of your help and hard work in ensuring the safety of our children at dismissal. Please remember that our school day is from 7:45-2:45. Students in grades K,1, and 2 will not be dismissed before 2:40 and students in grades 3-5 will dismiss at 2:45. In order to relieve the congestion on LaCrosse, we encourage you to arrive after 2:30 if you will be driving through the dismissal lane. Usually, our dismissal takes less than 10 minutes once students are released from classrooms. Please save your self some time and help us in managing the after school dismissal process. We will get children safely to their vehicles and send you on your way.
We need additional help from parent drivers during the morning arrival time in our circle drive in front. Please remember that ***one lane of cars only*** will ensure that all our little cardinals are safe during the morning drop-off. We are asking that you not pull around in a second lane in the circle drive. Also, please have your children ready to exit your car without delay or parking your car, so all cars can move quickly through the circle drive.
2007-2008 Yearbook
This is a wonderful keepsake that is also a lot of fun to put together. You get to put your skills to work and work with our awesome 5th Grade students. The yearbook project needs a coordinator or two to head up the project and committee for the 08-09 year. Please contact volunteers@claytoncardinals.org with questions ore if you are interested as soon as possible.
Clayton Spanish Program for 2008-2009
The Clayton Spanish Program is 100% parent funded and is run through the the school. The program's continuation each year is based entirely on the receipt of adequate donations to fund instructors and materials. Fortunately for 2008-2009, the requested donation and program budget is down significantly on fee per child in previous years because we have already purchased many reusable materials for the program. In 2008-2009, funding will primarily be used for hiring instructors and purchasing consumable instructional materials. Please call the office with questions at 841-9200.
Campus Advisory Council (CAC)?
The Campus Advisory Council (CAC) is made up of members including the principal and representatives from the following groups: administrative staff, teachers, community and business members and parents. Texas state law requires every school to have a campus advisory council in place. Their functions include assisting with a campus educational plan, a campus improvement plan, a campus staff development plan, campus level waiver requests, and a campus budget. The PTA has 2 representatives on the Clayton CAC, PTA Executive Board members - the PTA President and the CAC Representative (cacrep@claytoncardinals.org).
Community Support
Clayton is fortunate to have Perez Elementary as our sister school. Like Clayton, Perez opened in 06-07 and have the many challenges of a new and quickly growing school. Volunteers and families have the special opportunity to share ideas, talents and support with our community friends throughout the year. For more information, please contact Chris Pollom at cpollom@gmail.com.

Clayton Paper Recycling Program
Clayton Elementary has a large recycling bin on the east side of the school for collecting any recyclable paper products. These items would include newspapers, magazines, catalogues, office and school papers and mail. This bin is available for anyone living in Circle C to use for their paper recycling. Clayton will benefit not only from taking part in the recycling program, but will also be reimbursed for the paper placed in the bin. Abitibi Paper Retriever is also offering an added bonus - if any person that lives in the Circle C neighborhood signs up their place of employment for the recycling program and they fill their bin at least twice a month, that money will be donated to Clayton as well! The bins would be delivered free of charge and emptied as often as necessary. Please contact the school office at 841-9200 or go on-line to Abitibi PaperRetriever.com for further info.
Recycle Your Ink Cartridges to Help Clayton
Each inkjet cartridge is worth up to $2.00 for our school. We're raising funds for our kids and saving the environment. There is a collection box located in the main entrance by the front office. You can help Clayton by dropping off your empty inkjet cartridges throughout the school year.
Lunch in the Cafeteria
(Click here for the AISD menu and pricing.) If you're child is going to buy lunch in the cafeteria, you can supply money (cash only) as you go or have an account with mylunchmoney.com. Parents can supply cash in an envelope labeled with their student's name and teacher and send in your child's folder or drop it directly to the cafeteria line. mylunchmoney.com is a third party service that AISD uses if you would like to regularly put money into an account and allows use of a credit card. With both options, balances will carry over to the next school year. Students enter their student code (cafeteria has) at the end of the line to pay for their lunch. Please contact the school at 841-9200 with any questions.
**Important Mylunchmoney.com Information for End of Year
You will not be able to access your student's account after May 23rd. Any remaining balances will be transferred with your student for next year's beginning balance. If you have Smart Pay you can turn it off for the summer, but it will not be active even if you leave it on. AISD will be reactivating the schools one week prior to the first day of school, August 21, 2008. We do not anticipate any problems, but once the program is reactivated, it is always a good idea to make sure that: your student is listed at the correct school and grade level and that the beginning balance in the account agrees with the ending balance from last year.
Please contact My Lunch Money if you encounter any discrepancies at 1-800-479-3531. For those individuals leaving the district, please contact the Cafeteria Manager at your school for a refund before the last day of school.
